Gambling at Online Casinos is Relatively Safe
Online Gaming has not faded away in popularity to the public since the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or the UIGEA last October 13th, 2006, in the United States but admittedly, a lot of players who have previously enjoyed playing at online casinos, sports books and poker rooms like Party Poker are now looking for comprehensive information on whether it is lawful and secure to play online like in their local newspapers and most of the time, they receive wrong or incomplete information.
One incident regarding getting wrong information from local newspapers is when one reader asked the editor of a Miami, Florida based newspaper the question if it is safe to play online, which the editor replied that you can no longer put your trust in offshore operators because of the BetOnSports incident. While it is true that BetOnSports has broken the trust of their players, it is only one of the 2,300 plus gambling sites out there and the other sites should not suffer because of what BetOnSports did.
When the UIGEA Bill passed, U.S. and British based gaming companies fled the U.S. market but they did not lie to their players. Well-known gambling operators like 888.com, Party Poker and the others have made an orderly and graceful exit from the U.S. market after refunding the money of their U.S. based players. Even the more unknown casinos that runs in the Playtech platform refunded the money of their players before bowing out of the U.S. market.
BetOnSports was an exception to this case because the companies' top executives were arrested by the authorities and then jailed in the United States and as a result of this incident; they closed down their business and hid, without even refunding the money of their customers or caring for the welfare of their employees.
That is one extreme case of a fraudulent online casino organization. So to answer the burning question of a lot of U.S. based players who love to play online every once in a while and as a form of relaxation, that if it still safe to gamble online, he answer to that is a resounding yes. Online gambling is still a relatively competitive industry where if an online casino were to cheat their customers, they would be immediately be blacklisted and go bankrupt faster than you could ever imagine.
